Dear Room 8 Children,

Thank you for your notes. I have been reading your class blog. I think you have given me some good advice. I have been thinking about some things and I don't think it is very safe to go inside the houses of people or bears I don't know. I think I should take more care when jumping out of windows.

I think I will go back to the Bear's cottage with my Dad. He will be able to fix Baby Bear's chair and I will take them some pancakes for a special breakfast.

Maths, Mirrors and Symmetry

Today in Room 8 we explored patterns that had mirror lines. We are learning the tricky word symmetry.

We know that for a pattern to be symmetrical it needs to be exactly the same on each side of the mirror line. That means we need to think about colour, size and position of the objects in our pattern.

Room 8 were amazing in their presentations in the poetry recital held on Thursday. They spoke clearly, held up their head and looked at the audience, used expression and were fantastic. We were fortunate to see the school orchestra and choir today. They were fantastic. So at developmental time some of the children decided to make their own musical instruments. We had guitars, shakers, drum kits and xylophones so we were able to make our own orchestra!

We had a fantastic investigation trying to solve who actually ate the porridge at the 3 Bears house as apparently Goldilocks and her friends went into the house and Goldilocks went straight upstairs to bed. So using Science experiments... who spilt the raro, shoe prints investigation, who liked what drink and who wrote the sorry letter we were able to solve the mystery. Thanks Science Alive!

Every Tuesday we spend time with our R23 Buddies. These buddies met with us on our pre entry visit and will remain our buddy for the rest of the year so we always have an older child that we can depend on in the senior school. On Tuesday they took us on a number hunt so we could find all the classrooms at school.

What fun we had this week learning about solids, liquids and gas. We are learning what happens when we mix these together. Cornflour, water and green food colouring made our hands look like Shrek and we played with the swamp water!!

Over the next few weeks, Room 8 will be conducting some fun experiments in other classrooms. Today we did one in Room 9. We mixed baking soda and vinegar and made the balloon blow up because mixing baking soda and vinegar produces carbon dioxide which is a gas!

Reflection Time

In the classroom we have an assortment of reflection bubbles. These have sayings on them like 'It was hard but I managed', 'I was so exciting when..." and "I found out ...". At the end of every day the children stand up the front of the class and use these bubbles to reflect on their learning for the day. This week the children came up with a wonderful variety of ideas. Fun with Photobooth and the data projector

We were learning how to take photos with photo booth and with the computer linked up to the data projector we were able to see ourselves on the big screen. We experimented with the spriral, mirror and fishbowl effects. Lots of laughter was heard and funny faces pulled. What an awesome day.

Today our teachers were Bradley, Rosie and Archie. We made beautiful cupcakes with Rosie. She had it all organised with dogs for the boys and butterflies for the girls!
